I'm so glad you've stopped by my blog! I am a Women's Minister and a former Pastor's Wife. I love finding God in my regular-everyday-stuff. I struggle with keeping up with the laundry, I love blogging, and my kids are my first line of ministry. I am recently widowed. So God and I are on a brand new journey as I try to find peace and understanding. Please grab a cup of coffee and let's get to know one another as we journey on our faith walk together.

Did you even hear what I just said?!

Do you ever tell your children something and wonder, "Did they even hear me?"  Perhaps I need to say it louder?  Perhaps I need to turn the TV off in order to get their attention?!  I know as mothers we have all been here.

I read a story this morning in my One Year Bible about a king who acted in a similar way.

2 Chronicles 33:10 (ESV)
The Lord spoke to Manasseh and to His people, but they paid no attention.

Just a little background... Manasseh was the son of Hezekiah, king of Judah.  Hezekiah was not a perfect king but he did do what was "right in the sight of the Lord."  However, Manasseh did NOT follow in his father's footsteps.

What got my attention this morning was this...

1.  What a privilege it is for God to speak to us!  He is the Maker of the heavens and the earth and He takes time to speak to us!  I do not need to think of this lightly.

2.  Manasseh wasn't even paying attention when the God of the Universe spoke to him!!  The audacity!  Right?  This morning, as I went before the Lord in prayer I spent time confessing times that I too have been distracted by other noises.  I don't what my God to think or to say, "Did you even hear what I just said?"

Today, I'm going to be paying attention and counting it all joy that my God wants to talk with me!

Won't you join me in turning down the volumes of distracting noises & really listen to what God wants to say to us?

I'm game.... are you?

Oh, I wish I had a dollar for every time I've said that in my life; what between 2 girls (chatterboxes) and a husband that is truly hard of hearing... I would be a rich woman. But you are so right. Just think how many times God has said that and some of those times...like this Scripture you have referenced... He has said it very loudly!! Will we never learn?? You know we often say:" well if God would just speak to me like He did to those people in the Bible, especially those of the Old Testament, it would be a lot easier for me to know what He wants me to do and to obey." Now I know that I am not the only one that has ever felt this way. But we all know that what Penny has pointed out is absolutely true. God's Word is His speaking to us and if we are not daily turning to the Scripture in a setting that we not only read but listen then we are not listening..and therefore we will not hear what He just said to us. When we open our Bible ....which should be at least daily.. and better, more than one time a day.. we can hear from Him. Which is the only way we are going to withstand the evil and the one that wants to defeat us. Let's not let him win. Take up the Sword everyday..

Ah, isn't it amazing how much we can learn about God and about how He relates to us through our relationships and dialogues with our own children?? He must have set it up that way on purpose. ;) Great post.
