I'm so glad you've stopped by my blog! I am a Women's Minister and a former Pastor's Wife. I love finding God in my regular-everyday-stuff. I struggle with keeping up with the laundry, I love blogging, and my kids are my first line of ministry. I am recently widowed. So God and I are on a brand new journey as I try to find peace and understanding. Please grab a cup of coffee and let's get to know one another as we journey on our faith walk together.

Is this on your school supply list?

Well, it's that time of year again... BACK TO SCHOOL!

I just finished reviewing my daughter's Back-to-School Supply List.  While I'm relieved that the 1st Grade list is shorter than last year's Kindergarten List, I'm still perplexed at a few of the required items.  Like, I've never heard of a book sock!  Do they not hand out premade book covers anymore (for free I might add)!!!

All jokes and kidding aside, I love this time of year!  Even before my husband & I had our first child, I loved walking through the School Supply displays.  I love the smell of new crayons, I love all those fun folders and I so very much wished that I had a reason to buy glue and rulers!  So now, I have a real reason to go to that section in Target!!!

Jordan (our 6 year old) and I were talking the other day about the new adventures she would soon encounter in First Grade.  We both got a light in our eyes as we discussed the new supplies that we would be purchasing this week.  We went down the list... everything from "pointed crayons" (her words) to a possible new backpack, to hoping we could find markers that had pink & gray.  It really was a fun conversation!

THEN IT HAPPENED....

She asked me a question that nearly brought tears to my eyes.  When she was 4 years old and starting Pre-K, we were all a little bit nervous.  So I gave her a kiss on the cheek and told her to put it in her pocket.  I shared with her that if during the day she got sad and missed me, she could just pull out that kiss and it would make her feel like I was right there with her.

Well, that was 2 years ago!  Fast forward to our current conversation...  As we got to the end of the list, Jordan asked me this...

"Mommy, can I still take a kiss in my pocket
to First Grade?"

It truly melted my heart!  No matter how big she gets - she's still my little girl - with a kiss in her pocket!

What "extra little thing" do you add
to your School Supply List
that makes your kid feel special?

I love this! What a wonderful gift you have given her...A great reminder that no matter what she faces, there is always a safe place for her, you are never far from her...Someday, she will understand the nearness of her God a little easier...
Happy ifellowship my friend!

Happy iFellowship day - there is nothing like filling up with new stationery supplies - my boss must be pleased I'm not in charge of the stationary order...There is something about new pens and paper - it feels so much like fresh start.

Cute. Kids say the sweetest things...and usually when you are least expecting it. We are going to home school, but IF I did need to put something extra special in with them to take to school, it would probably be little things here and there in their lunches. Like notes and special candies and stuff like that. But hey, my oldest is only 4, so I have some time to think! :-)
Happy iFellowship!

Awwww! How sweet is that!? We homeschool, so while *I* get excited when the back to school sales start, usually the kids just look at it as an opportunity to get new colored pencils or a notebook with a character on it. :) I do always ask if there is something each one would like me to get, just for him/her.
Dropping by from iFellowship today!

I LOVE school supply shopping especially in NC with tax free weekend! We usually let them pick out one special folder or set of pens.

It is a Happy iFellowship Day and you got to me before I got to you. I start at the end and work up. Do you?

I'm sending my daughter a link to this blog. She is sending her second child off to kindergarten this year and he is just the perfect child to appreciate a kiss in his pocket. I'd feel a lot better about him having it along too!

I am happy as always to connect through iFellowship. Though I may not always participate, I sure acquire some very spiritual friends, lots of encouragement and essential inspiration. Thanks!

That is so sweet! Lucky for me, at my daughter's school, they buy the school supplies for us and then let us all know what it costs. Usually about $20. They can get discounts buying in bulk so it's a pretty sweet deal! Thanks again for contacting me! I love this ifellowship community!
